Herbal Christmas CraftsCinnamon Spice Ornaments
1 cup Cinnamon Combine dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. Roll out at least 1/4 inch thick and cut shapes. Make holes so they can be hung. Allow to dry 4-5 days. Turn them every day while drying. Another holiday favorite that our family enjoys making is orange pomanders. These are made by inserting clove buds into an orange at 1/8 - 1/4 inch intervals. You can use a toothpick to puncture the orange before inserting the clove. After the orange is thoroughly covered with cloves, roll the oranges in the spice mixture and place them in a bowl with the excess spice mixture and allow to cure for two to four weeks. When the pomanders are dry, dust off the spices and hang with a ribbon. The wonderful aromas make this project a joy. Spice Mixture
1/4 cup Ground Cinnamon You'll need approximately 1/2 pound of whole cloves to make 6 pomanders. If you enjoy a spicy herbal blend to scent your home try this easy to prepare simmering blend. You can probably find most of these herbs in your cupboard and can just toss a handful into a simmering pot to add a spicy holiday aroma to your home. Simmering Blend
3 oz. Cinnamon Sticks To use the simmering blend add a handful to your simmering pot and cover with water. Add the essential oils and allow herbs to simmer throughout the day. Add more water if needed. More essential oils may be added later if desired. Happy Holidays! Article by Millie Fodor Copyright (c) 2000 by Stony Mountain Botanicals, Ltd. All rights reserved.
